In what you might think is straight out of The Onion, Chinese youth have taken a bold step in battling depression by starting a new vegetable-themed trend.
These youth will take a cabbage, put it on a leash, and go for a walk with it to make the statement that they are “as lonely and simple as a cabbage”.
I respect these kids for having the confidence to walk out in public like this to openly battle depression, which is such a huge issue in China — but I have to admit: I’m not sure walking around with a cabbage on a leash would make me feel better about myself.
But hey, whatever works right? As reported by UPI:
“I feel I can transfer my negative thoughts about myself to the cabbage, go for a walk with it and come home feeling better about myself,” said cabbage-walker Lui Ja Chen. “In fact afterwards, I can throw the cabbage away and feel that I have tossed my feelings out with it.”
Maybe next month we’ll see carrots on leashes being sold on the shelves of our friendly neighborhood Wal-Mart.
Check out the video with actual people walking their…cabbages.
Update: as it turns out, these reports of people walking their cabbage is part of some performance art and not reality. That’s not to say that stranger things haven’t happened.
